Redundant City

Research project at TUM

Dynamic processes such as urban restructuring, densification, segregation and the contesting of centralities define core problems in current research and discourses on the city. The complexity of urban processes raises major difficulties in their representation and analysis. This has consequences for the way we connect to dynamic urban phenomena in the theoretical field as well as in practice. Based on the analysis of urban and architectural narratives of conflict and change, Redundant City is a sensitising urban concept developed to broaden our understanding of specific urban phenomena at low intensities of change. In the proposed methodology elements of situational analysis and empirical research are combined to form a grounded and concept-generating, multisite research approach.
