Landmark East

competition: 2003
location: East Anglia, UK

The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) launched this international ideas competition in October 2003, calling for visionary ideas for a landmark: “A sustainable icon to put the East of England on the map“ regionally, nationally and internationally.
We developed a decentralised strategy consisting of a series of speculative and playful scenarios in form of accupuncutral interventions that would kick-start sustainable development and growth throughout the region. The proposal was reviewed by the EEDA as following: “A series of six ecological programmes including: water festival; wind turbine park and walk through aviary; converted tanker to house a mobile zoo for endangered sea-species and animals suffering from oil spills; turbine tower; fuel cell hubs; caravan garden“ to open up problematic leftover sites for temporary use for the leisure industry.”
